Construction of $3bln Tunis Financial Harbour to Begin

Construction of a $3 billion financial park and real estate development north of Tunisia’s capital is set to begin after being for five years.

The project, which is being built by Bahrain’s Gulf Finance House, is billed as one of the largest private foreign investments in Tunisia. Known as Tunis Financial Harbour, the park is believed to be the first financial park in North Africa.

The site, would cover 450 hectares in the Raoued suburb of Tunis, will contain a corporate center, an investment banking and advisory center and an insurance area. It will also include homes, offices, a golf course, a business school and trade centers.

It is expected to create 17,000 jobs, according to Bahraini officials.

The project was first announced in December of 2007.

According to the developers, the the Tunis Financial Harbour will be strategically situated at the heart of the Mediterranean, just 25km north of Tunis and only 15km from Carthage International Airport, offering excellent transport connections.
