Sam Jonah — Lord of the Mines

Sir. Samuel Esson Jonah served as president of Anglogold Ashanti Ltd. from May 2004 to July 31, 2005 and again since February 2007.

Prior to that he was with Ashanti Goldfields Co., Ltd., which he joined in 1969 and served as its Chief Executive Officer from 1986 to 2004. He is credited with leading the transformation of Ashanti from on one mine operation into a multinational gold miner.

Recently, Sam Jonah, a Ghanaian, was named as a board member of the newly launched state-owned Togo Invest Corporation, which is backed with a capital of 20 billion Francs He is one of seven Board members, including Nigeria’s business magnate, Alhaji Aliko Dangote and South Africa’s Thulani Gchabasi.

Jonah, who founded Jonah Mining (Pty) Ltd. in 2005, serves on numerous boards.
